This is a picture of what normal bone marrow looks like under a microscope. See? It's filled up with all kinds of healthy, productive cells. Looks busy doesn't it? It is busy! Bone Marrow is like a factory, and the cells inside it are the workers that produce blood cells. So hey all you healthy folks....don't take this stuff for granted...it's keeping you alive!
This is a picture of "Aplastic" or "empty" marrow, and this is what the bone marrow of folks afflicted with Aplastic Anemia looks like. The marrow is filled up with fatty tissue instead of cells. See? The "factory" has shut down and the "workers" are on strike. As a result...AA patients have to accept "imported" blood.
There now....wasn't THAT educational?
THIS is the 50cc's of Donor Marrow that saved Katy's life, just before it was infused. Pretty amazing, eh?
This is the lifesaving marrow being pushed into Katy's sleeping body. It's a moment of rebirth.
As it makes it's way through the IV tubing, Katy's new marrow is on the verge of becoming a part of her new life. It's an awesome moment. THANK YOU so much Katy's donor. We are forever in your debt.
