Meet my Donor Ernie

This is my angel....my bone marrow donor Ernie. Ernie joined the National Marrow Donor Program's Registry about 7 years ago, when a fellow employee sponosored a marrow drive for a leukemia patient. Much to his surprise, Ernie "got the call" in December of 1998, and stepped right up to the plate. He donated the bone marrow that saved Katy's life on May 7th, 1999. He reports that his procedure went well, and encourages others to get on the registry and donate marrow if they are called to.

Katy and Ernie are now bonded in a special way that defies words. This man gave a part of himself to save a little girl that he didn't even know, and it takes a very unique and special person to do that. We feel blessed to have someone like Ernie in our lives. He will forever be our "Special Angel".

"When I first registered in the NMDP, I knew the odds of ever being a match to someone unrelated to me was slim. That's why when I was approached to be potential donor, I was excited. I knew if I turned out to be a good match, I would really be able to help someone in need. I have received a great deal of satisfaction in knowing I've made a difference and I've truly found Katy's perseverance and the devotion of her family inspirational. I too am really looking forward to meeting Katy and her family and can't wait to get one of those "Katy hugs 'n kisses" I've heard about."---Ernie

This is Ernie, and his wife Bridget. Aren't they a lovely couple? What a gift they both are to our family! We can't imagine how we got so lucky...a wonderful and caring donor for Katy and his wife who supported him throughout the process. They are a joy to know, and we hope they are a part of our lives for many years to come.
